Calculate take-home bonus after tax

1

Enter the gross bonus before any deductions

Enter the total bonus amount your employer has told you you'll receive before any tax is taken off. This is sometimes called your 'gross bonus'. If your employer told you the bonus is £5,000, enter £5,000 - we'll calculate what you actually take home after tax and National Insurance.

This helps us calculate your marginal tax rate on the bonus

Your annual salary determines which tax band your bonus falls into. Bonuses are taxed at your 'marginal rate' - the highest rate you pay. For example, if your salary is £45,000, you're a basic rate taxpayer. But if your salary is £55,000, any bonus will be taxed at 40% (higher rate). Enter your gross annual salary before any deductions.

Scotland has different tax bands

Scotland has its own income tax rates which are slightly different from the rest of the UK. Scottish residents pay income tax to the Scottish Government rather than HMRC. If you live in Scotland (based on where your main home is), select Scotland. Your tax code will have an 'S' prefix if you're a Scottish taxpayer.
